Magical Rock – Day 19 NaPoWriMo 2020

"Look mum, that's a magical stone"
I was perhaps 6 or 7-years-old
Out on a walk with my mom
The roadside was freshly dug
A white crystal standing out
I picked it up and brought it home
Make-believing that it had magical powers
to make headaches begone
So any time either of my parents got one
I'd rush with my magical rock
Putting it on their forehead
Willing my energy to work it
Until the headache was gone
It continued perhaps for a while
Until something else charmed me more
And then it lay in a corner for years
Retired from its job

Rediscovering it just a few years ago
All the memories found their way
My magic crystal had done its job
Cured some headaches along the way
Now as a 22-year-old, it was time to say
Goodbye to an ordinary raw quartz
And smile back at the walking archive
Of the 6-year-old from the past.
